Rebel with a Corset

Mr. Pearl |Photo Credit: Pinterest | Graphics La PETITE Blog

Mr. Pearl is the illustrious pseudonym worn by Mark Pullin - master  corsetier to the Fashion world. His brilliance has been seen on runways for Dior, Thierry Mugler and Alexander McQueen, -  adorned by the likes of Dita Von Teese, Kylie Minogue and Mr. Pearl himself. I have always had a fascination with Mr.Pearl, how elusive he is, his famous physique and the outlandishly beautiful corsets he has produced for glamazons across the world.  A few weeks ago I was watching 'The View' and Sherri Shepherd question if corsets made a resurgence because of Kim Kardashian and I screamed 'blasphemy'  at the television! While KimK is known for her hourglass frame she does not encompass nor exudes the allure and sensuality of a true corset wearer.  Mr.Pearl radiates and oozes the poise, composure and sheer elegance a corset gives to one who commits to wearing that foundation. It's more then a garment, it's a lifestyle that might not be for all can be appreciated even from afar.

While we, mere mortals can not fax Mr.Pearl and order up a corset or two (or maybe you have that fabled number - if you do ...SHARE!) we can peruse these corsets from Net-A-Porter.com  that can give us the illusion of a tapered waist.

Rodolfo Paglialunga Appointed As New Creative Director of Jil Sander

The Jil Sander Group has announced the appointment of Rodolfo Paglialunga as new Creative Director. The appointment is effective immediately and the Women’s Spring/Summer 2015 runway show will mark the designer’s first collection for the house.

Italian native Paglialunga’s career started at Romeo Gigli in the early 90’s where he served as the founder’s closest collaborator. In 1996 he joined Prada to collaborate for over 10 years arriving to assume the role as Womenswear design director. In early 2009 Paglialunga left Prada to become Creative Director for the house of Vionnet.

“We are very confident about this decision”, said Alessandro Cremonesi, Chief Executive Officer the Group. “We have identified the right talent that with coordinated assets in terms of personality and design skill will be able raise our creative excellence to achieve new fashion marks. We trust that Rodolfo Paglialunga’s refined and cosmopolitan approach will be instrumental to reinforce our core values and continue to drive innovation and modernity into the heritage of the Brand.

“I’m deeply honored to have the opportunity to take on this role”,
Rodolfo Paglialunga declared. “I have boundless admiration for the Brand as I strongly believe in its pure vision and values. My aim is to carry forward the fusion between sophistication, luxury and innovation and bring the house into the next level”.

Seems like a good choice to me. Dp you agree? Disagree?

the new look: grey and black.

i've been more inspired to decorate our apartment recently, so this weekend involved some cleaning and donating to goodwill, then some shopping at west elm. i've only shared bits and pieces of our home here, but i'm excited to share more (maybe even a full-ish tour!)

hope you had a wonderful weekend and thanks for stopping by!

the friday five.

1. so many amazing pieces in the the shopbop + born free collection: 22 designers from marni, vera wang, dvf, prada and more made clothing for women and kids plus accessories and 100% of the proceeds go towards born free's mission to end mother-to-child hiv transmission at birth. / 2. remember seeing pics of the sophia webster for j.crew shoes on the runway last september? well it's finally in stores and online…but act fast; many sizes are already sold out. / 3. phillip lim's denim capsule collection is not your typical distressed, acid-washed fare: rinse denim takes on all kinds of silhouettes from this natty suit to a moto jacket to a convertible trench. / 4. i'm a bit behind on this one, but i finally picked up the latest issue of the last magazine, featuring daria by mikael jansson...her editorial and karlie kloss' are lovely and i'm a sucker for the oversized format. / 5. the first retrospective of famed african-american fashion designer patrick kelly called "runway of love" opens this weekend at my hometown philadelphia museum of art. kelly was known for bold, playful creations with a bit of 80s cheekiness. influenced by coco chanel and elsa schiaparelli, he was the first american and first black designer to be voted into the the french fashion industry association. tragically his life was cut short by aids and he passed away in 1990. the show runs through november, so check it out if you're in town.

have a fabulous weekend!

This is my favourite Spring/Summer 2014 collection, Ladies and Gentlemen! I love the diversity of colours and shapes and range the range of looks from punk rock to evening glamour. Hedi Slimane added some indy, military, Ziggy Stardust & avantgarde and merged all these influences into ZEITGEIST DELUXE! On spot! *loving it*

How do you like the collection?

editorial focus: into the woods.

came across this editorial over the weekend, and i loved how modern yet undone it felt. the pieces chosen by street style star christine centenera have a subtle sophistication in a palette of white, cream, black, navy, and light blue and the beauty look of full brows, luminous skin, and slightly wet hair is a nice juxtaposition.

the new look: spring stripes.

zappos has long been a source for me to find great footwear (with choices from zappos and the more luxurious couture shop), but more recently, i've discovered some of my favorite clothing lines, like seven for all mankind, velvet, rebecca taylor, and parker are part of the zappos coveted boutique. you can shop by lookbook, buyers' picks, outfit, or trend, and of course find fab accessories to make your look unique. i fell in love with this striped trina turk dress and its flirty dropped waist, perfect with flats for work or sandals for a day for an afternoon of brunch and shopping.

stay tuned for another zappos coveted look for a night out...

this post was sponsored by zappos. all opinions are my own and i would never write a paid post about a product, store, or service i would not personally shop or believe in.
