currently coveting: may inspirations.

may means cinco de mayo, mother's day, and memorial day and the unofficial start of summer (or at least spring)...

one. i'm all about a sweater with interesting details. this one from vince has a stonewashed finish and rich texture...perfect for a chilly san francisco spring.

two. excited to see the anna wintour costume center exhibit on charles james, america's first couturier (this book is a good primer). i also can't wait to see how models and celebrities interpret his style and the new dress code at tonight's met gala.

three. a friend recently turned me on to mac's prep + prime lip, which is a great base layer for softening lips and making any lipstick last longer.

four. was chatting with annie a few weeks ago about some of tiffany's iconic jewelry collections, and decided to break out my elsa peretti teardrop earrings from college.

five. kevyn aucoin's the celestial bronzing veil in tropical nights is a wonderful bronzer for my darker skin...gives me just enough glow without being sparkly.

six. this mascara is thick, dark, and voluminizing while being organic.

seven. found these suede sandals from calvin klein over the weekend, and i love how minimal they are.

eight. wanting these porcelain mason jars from maker and moss for decorating around the apartment and storing makeup brushes.

nine. the eighties are back (did they ever leave?), and for me that means finding a great pair of slouchy denim bleached shorts. gap makes a pair for under $50 (and 40% off right now!)

scenes from a weekend.

another beautiful weekend was just what i needed before heading into a busy week, ending with our fall photoshoot. some of what i was up to...

1. my ocd was in a happy place at the muji store. made me what to throw out every desk accessory, pen, and pencil i have and start over. / 2. instead of doing that, i splurged on a few garance doré for rifle paper company notebooks. / 3. packing my cuyana tote for a day of exploring: balenciaga zip pouch, chanel lip gloss, dries van noten perfume, prada saffiano wallet, linda farrow x alexander wang sunglasses, gap scarf (old), pierre hardy pouch (for business cards) / 4. love the displays in my favorite new home store, maker and moss. / 5. i used to have nothing but sneakers; so many cool styles in undefeated. / 6. some goodies that i treated myself to: adjustable lariat necklace from sweet and spark, super matte black sunglasses, bite beauty agave lip mask (been putting on at night and wake up in the a.m. with softer lips)

GET TO BUSINESS LADIES!

 #GIRLBOSS
THE NEW BOOK FROM SOPHIA AMORUSO
FOUNDER AND CEO OF NASTY GAL
nastygal.com

#GIRLBOSS, the new tome by Nasty Gal chieftain, Sophia Amoruso is slated to be a must have guide for not only female entrepreneurs but women everywhere who want to have the career of their dreams and truly invest in themselves. This message while not new is needed with legions of both men and women venturing out and creating jobs for themselves at this time of financial variability. With the influx of so many entrepreneurs there a need of resources that can further assist us all make our mark in the world. Since #GIRLBOSS isn't available until May 6th (you can pre-order the book HERE) - here we have some invaluable tips from Zenovia Andrews, author and business development strategist on the how to delegate and truly run things.

Zenovia Andrews' Keys To Delegating Your Way To Success

•  Understand that your team is made up of human beings. No one can work nonstop, so get your timing right. Know what each employee can handle, and never overwork them. Most people perform at their best when they are consistently busy but not rushed or pressured.

•  Focus on the strengths of your team. Delegation is not a dump-and-run tactic. Know your employees and how they fit into your business puzzle. Allow them to do what they do well, and give them responsibilities and authority. They’ll be happier and so will you.

•  Focus on your own strengths, then plug the holes. Few of us are great at everything! If bookkeeping’s not your thing, hire an accountant. If you don’t have marketing experience, find someone with proven skills. Trying to perform jobs that you don’t do well will require twice as much effort with less-than-satisfactory results.

•  Be the resource king or queen. Your employees are only as good as the resources they have. Make sure that they are equipped to always do the best work for you on a daily basis. Running out of stock, not having new software and not shelling out for that desperately need printer is NOT good delegation.

•  Become the fire, ice and motivation behind your team. When they need guidance, give it to them; when they need appreciation, offer it to them. Inspire, motivate and lead by supporting your delegated decisions and following up on them often.

There you have it Mon Petites, if you are itching to create a space for yourself as a business owner or not these tips from both Sophia Amoruso and Zenovia Andrews are indispensable. Now let's get to business ladies!

the new look: klein blue.

i've had a pair of yves klein blue suede pumps in my wardrobe for many years, but most of them have been from more affordable designers. first i had a pair of steve madden's that were so comfortable that i bought them again when the first pair was worn down. then i found a mid-heel pair at zara ones and a higher pair from aldo so i could rotate. back in february at céline, i saw these but was more focused on getting the knot bracelet. so when i saw them again last weekend at saks, i felt like i should splurge on a nice pair, since i wear them so often. with a heel height of 3.5", they are an optimal height for wearing all day, and the d'orsay silhouette gives them a bit of interest.

madewell shirt (acid wash version), lanvin skirt (old, similar), céline pumps (available in-store at saks fifth avenue; similar), talbots bag (similar here and here), tom ford sunglasses, elizabeth cole earrings (in gold and turquoise), madewell, bauble bar ℅, vita fede rings; céline, jewelmint, eddie borgo, hermés bracelets
