There's nothing like buying vintage, the hunt in itself is a thrill and when you find gems (as I often do via 1stDibs.com) it's always triumphant.
HOW TO GET THE LOOK: Get thrifty (pun intended)! No matter if you are on the search for one-of-a-kind couture pieces are period looks don't get scared to get down and dirty. Look at the garment, really look at it and see if it is worth the expense (no matter how cheap we mean inexpensive it is). With a vintage wardrobe it's all about the aesthetic but be sure that it's worth it.
